There’s seriously going to be police searches at Caribana (‘Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival’ if you prefer) this year?

I get that there has been gun violence in the past during the festivities, but this strangely seems like cultural profiling.

I mean to have a crackdown on a cultural event that celebrates the cultures of people, who happen to make up the majority of inhabitants of places in the city where gang violence is most rampant? That doesn’t seem a bit wrong?

I get it’s for security reasons because of recent shooting events and I respect that, but we’ve had how many summer festivities so far. Why not moderate those as well instead of generalizing and picking on the one event which a few bad seeds happen to have a cultural connection to?
